This weekend, the recently-rebranded MSPT was at Grand Falls Casino just outside Sioux Falls for a $1,110 Main Event. The tournament attracted 513 entrants and awarded a $496,110 prize pool. To date, the MSPT has awarded $206,447,913 in prize money dating back to 2009.

On Sunday, 55 surviving players returned to play down to a winner, and after approximately nine hours of play, it was well-known poker pro Angela Jordison coming out on top to claim a $95,381 top prize and her second MSPT title. She previously won the MSPT Ameristar East Chicago for $161,513 last September.

“To come in short, it’s really something I’ve been working so much on lately, the ICM chops and these short stack situations really came into play here and it really helped me out,” Jordison told MSPT reporter Anthony Thompson after the win. “All that prep that I do off the felt, the stuff that seems to be really boring or worthless, really came in clutch here.”

Sights Set on MSPT Hall of Fame

Others to cash the tournament were former MSPT champs Ryan Skluzak (45th - $2,398), Mo Nuwwarah (37th - $2,398), Josh Reichard (30th - $2,646), and Taylor Howard (29th - $2,646). Anthony Scarborough also finished in 36th place for $2,646, which gave him 100 POY points. He now sits atop the Season 16 POY leaderboard with 3,150 points.

According to updates from the event, Jordison started the final table as the second shortest stack, but she won some big hands against former MSPT champ Jason Sell to get back in business. Eventually, Jordison ended up heads-up against TJ Murphy and the two worked an ICM chop and then played it out to determine a winner. It didn’t take long for Jordison to flop and straight and dispatch Murphy in second place.

The win was big in Jordison’s quest to become the first woman to earn their way into the MSPT Hall of Fame (PokerNewsPodcast cohost Kyna England is also close), and that was especially true after recent criteria changes.

“I was pretty disappointed after seeing the Hall of Fame changes,” Jordison explained. “It was something I was gunning for and then felt like it was almost unattainable, like great now I’m never going to get it.”

One of the criteria is to win at least two MSPT titles, and now Jordison is there. She has 17 MSPT Main Event cashes totaling $463,714, so now all she needs is 23 more MSPT Main Event cashes and to get up to the $500K mark.
