The latest 888poker $100,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event has crowned its champion, but there was something of an upset with how matters panned out. Lithuania's "Krutuliai" sat down with a colossal 144 big blind stack, almost three times more than anyone else, and it seemed like the other seven finalists were playing for second place. However, poker has a funny way of going against the grain, and it was the player who started the final day in third place, "DTFMANO18," who emerged victoriously from the battle and claimed an $8,817 payday.

A Day 1 field of 948 entrants meant an overlay on the $100,000 guarantee, but it did not affect the biggest bounties. Nine bounties weighed in at $1,000 or more, including a whopping $10,000 for one lucky grinder. The fantastically named "Zaniacmaniac" got their hands on that five-figure haul before they bowed out in 48th place. The $10,298 they scooped was the tournament's largest payout.

As mentioned, "Krutuliai" sat down at the final table as an overwhelming chip leader with one hand on the title. Canada's "popsnpoker," an 888poker veteran, brought up the rear with 17 big blinds, some 127 big blinds less than the player at the top of the pile.

The start-of-the-day short stack fell first. "popsnpoker" committed the last of their chips with pocket sixes only to run into "DTFMANO18"'s pocket aces. The five community cards provided little in the way of drama, and "popsnpoker" headed for the exits.

Armenia's "VortexMorado" fell at the hands of "Krutuliai" in a cruel hand. The chips piled in on the turn, with "VortexMorado" having turned top two. "Krutuliai" had an inside straight draw and a flush draw, and the latter came in on the river. "VortexMorado" headed for the showers, while "Krutuliai" became even richer.

"El_hombre" and "Fl4tbush20" crashed out before the hours mark to leave only four hopefuls in contention for the title of champion. At the first scheduled break, "Krutuliai" still held a massive lead, their 128 big blind stack eclipsing everyone else by some distance; "DTFMANO18" was their nearest rival with 37 big blinds.

The final four became three when a short-stacked "DMrzhk" ran their ace-jack into pocket aces, and, and then "Ryzy87" ran out of steam. Finishing third was a great result for "Ryzy87," considering they were down to a handful of big blinds at the start of five-handed play.

"DTFMANO18" managed to draw level with the once-runaway chip leader during three-handed play, and entered the heads-up battle with a slight advantage. The battle was over within ten minutes.

"Krutuliai" min-raised on the button with king-queen, "DTFMANO18" called with seven-six, and the flop fell seven-trey-six all hearts. "DTFMANO18" check-called a continuation bet before improving to a full house on the turn. The boat-holding champion-elect check-called another bet on the turn before doing the same on the river when "Krutuliai" jammed in their short stack with nothing more than king-high.

The runner-up walked away with $8,591 while the champion padded their 888poker bankroll with $8,817.
